The Life and Artistic Journey of Walter Püttner
Born in Leipzig, Germany, Walter Püttner was the son of the architect and landscape draftsman Richard Püttner, who provided his initial art instruction. He pursued further training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Ludwig Herterich, Ludwig Löfftz, and Paul Hoecker. His artistic development was further inspired by Wilhelm Trübner. As a member of the group known as Gruppe G, he participated in the annual exhibition of the Munich Artists' Association. Püttner was also a founding member of the Künstlervereinigung Die Scholle and the Münchener Neuen Secession, where he served on the board alongside Max Feldbauer. Additionally, he was a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund.
In 1900, Püttner was a prize winner in a competition held by Ludwig Stollwerck to create designs for a Stollwerck collection album. His professional career included work as an illustrator for the magazine Die Jugend. Between 1917 and 1920, he served as a teacher at the Damenakademie of the Munich Women's Artists' Association, where he taught head and figure painting, drawing, and composition. It was during this time that he met his future wife, the painter Pauline Eigner. Following the end of the Second World War, he worked as a freelance artist in Maxlrain.
