Born in Chittagong, Bangladesh in 1950 to Mokhlessur Rahman and Shamsun Nahar.

Grew up in Dhaka, attending Kamrunnessa Govt Girls High School and later the College of Home Economics, Azimpur.

Pursued formal fashion education at the London College of Fashion, graduating in 1975.

International Modeling Career

Following her graduation, Bibi Russell embarked on a five-year modeling career, working with prominent magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Harper's Bazaar.

Collaborated with renowned fashion houses including Yves Saint Laurent, Kenzo, Karl Lagerfeld, and Giorgio Armani until 1994.

Return to Bangladesh & Bibi Productions

In 1994, Russell returned to her native Bangladesh and founded Bibi Productions, a fashion house dedicated to blending indigenous Bengali cultural elements with contemporary design.

By 2004, Bibi Productions employed approximately 35,000 rural weavers across Bangladesh, demonstrating a commitment to economic empowerment through artisanal work.

Global Recognition and Fashion Shows

With support from UNESCO, Russell organized her first European fashion show in Paris in 1996, introducing Bengali aesthetics to an international audience.

Further expanded her global presence with “The Colours of Bangladesh” fashion show in Spain in 1997.
