The Life and Career of Alexander Kircher
Alexander Kircher was an Austrian-German marine and landscape painter and illustrator. Born in Trieste, which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the time, he originally intended to become a naval officer in the Austro-Hungarian Navy, but a foot injury prevented this path. His travels took him across Europe, Asia, North America, and Egypt, allowing him to create various paintings, drawings, and illustrations.
Kircher's professional life included serving as a professor at the Art Academy in Trieste between 1895 and 1900. He was a prolific illustrator for several publications, including The Leipziger Illustrierte Zeitung and the weekly Reclams universe . His work also appeared in the writings of the Austrian and German fleet associations. He was a recipient of the Spanish Order of Isabella the Catholic in 1909.
Maritime Themes and Legacy
