          Rano detinjstvo i obrazovanje

          Vilhelm Marstrand, čuveni danski slikar, rođen je 24. decembra 1810. godine u Kopenhagenu, u Danskoj. Njegov otac, Nikolaj Jakob Marstrand, koji je bio majstor instrumenta i pronalazac, rano je podsticao umetničke sklonosti svog sina. Sa samo šesnaest godina, Vilhelm je započeo svoje studije na akademiji pod mentorstvom Kristijana Vaagepetersena, trgovca vinom na danskom dvoru i velikog pokrovnika umetnosti.
