Rano život i obrazovanje
Charles Robert Leslie, istaknuta figura britanske umetnosti, rođen je 19. oktobra 1794. godine u Londonu među američkim roditeljima. Sa svega pet godina, zajedno sa svojom porodicom, preselio je u Filadelfiju, gde je završio svoje obrazovanje. Iako je u početku bio podučavao kod knjižara, njegova prava strast ležala je u slikarstvu i pozorištu.
Umetnička karijera
U 1rt godini 1811, Leslie je stigao u London sa preporukama koje su mu omogućile podršku značajnih umetnika poput Benjamina Westa. Upisao je Royal Academy Schools 1813. godine, gde je osvojio dve srebrne medalje. Pod uticajem Westa i Fuselija, Leslie je u početku istraživao grandiozne umetničke teme, ali je ubrzo otkrio svoju pravu svrhu u žanrovskom slikarstvu.
