Zgodnje življenje in umetniški začetki Alberta Edelfelta Albert Gustaf Aristides Edelfelt, eden najpomembnejših finskih slikarjev 19. stoletja, se je rodil 21. julija 1854 v Porvooju na Finskem. Njegovi starši, Carl Albert in Alexandra Edelfelt (rojena Brandt), so bili švedsko govoreči Finci. Že od malih nog je pokazal izjemen talent za risanje, ki ga je spodbujala družina. Ta strast ga je leta 1869 popeljala v Risarsko šolo finskega umetniškega društva, kjer je začel formalno usposabljanje.
