Born into a world of commerce and creativity—his father being an established art dealer—Govaerts was immersed in the very fabric of the Flemish art scene from his earliest years. He emerged as a master within the prestigious Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke during the first decade of the seventeenth century, eventually rising to the esteemed position of deacon in 1623.
