Early Life and Artistic Training Niels Hansen was born on 22 June 1880 in Nørre Vornæs, Tåsinge. His connection to the sea and the rugged landscapes of his origin would eventually define much of his visual language, but his formal path began much earlier. At the age of 14, he moved to Svendborg to begin his first painting lessons, marking the start of a disciplined pursuit of craft.
