Early Life and Training in Ireland
James Forrester entered the world in Dublin, Ireland, in 1729. His early years in the city provided the foundation for a life spent observing the natural world. Despite the limited duration of his stay in Ireland, his presence in the local circles of painters was established before he eventually sought new horizons elsewhere.
Life and Activity in Italy
In 1755, Forrester left the familiarity of Ireland behind and moved to Rome. This move marked the beginning of a long chapter in his life, as he would spend the final twenty years of his existence within the Italian peninsula. He did not simply settle in one place; instead, he traveled extensively throughout the country. These travels allowed him to study the land closely, seeking to understand the specific light and terrain that defined the Italian landscape.
His time in Italy was defined by this constant movement and observation. He sought to familiarize himself with the natural world through direct experience, wandering through various regions to capture the essence of the scenery.
