Cornelis Wilhelmus Marinus Baard, widely known as Kees Baard, was a Dutch painter, architect, muralist, and art collector. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, his professional life was marked by a variety of roles, including serving as a substituut-officier, a legal official at the beginning of a career within the public prosecution service. His creative journey saw him working in Amsterdam until 1943, followed by a period in Alkmaar that lasted until 1962. Later in life, between 1961 and 1964, he resided in Schaesberg, in the province of Zuid-Limburg.
The artistic output of Kees Baard included floral still lifes and religious art. His notable works held in the Stedelijk Museum, Alkmaar, include:
In the early 1960s, specifically during 1962/1963, Baard executed three tableaux featuring geometric motifs for the Barbara Kerk in Kakert, located in the Gemeente Landgraaf. Created at the request of the pastor to serve as pulpit cladding, these tableaux included the names of the four evangelists on one and the Christ monogram on another. His work in this setting also encompassed the consecration crosses and a portion of the Maria altar.
