Biography | Javier Orfón
Javier Orfón was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico (1989), a city steeped in the legacy of colonialism and marked by ongoing crises—themes that permeate his artistic vision. From an early age, he demonstrated a profound connection to the natural world and a fascination with traditional crafts, influences that would shape his distinctive approach to sculpture, illustration, and experimental printmaking. His formal education began at Universidad de Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture in 2013. During this period, he honed his skills through intensive studio practice and engaged with critical discussions about contemporary art and its role in addressing social issues. Notably, he participated in the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2022), fostering collaboration and experimentation within a supportive artistic community.
