She did not merely paint faces; she documented the leaders of her time, from military men like Maréchal de Canrobert to political figures such as Adolphe Thiers. In 1866, the French government even purchased one of her works for display at the Palais des Tuileries.
Her travels further expanded her artistic horizons. In 1867, she journeyed to Italy to study under Ernest Hébert at the Villa Médicis in Rome. This exposure to Renaissance art deeply influenced her aesthetic sensibilities.
