Born in Leiden in 1728, Hendrik van Velthoven grew up in a city where art was a deeply ingrained part of daily life. This role allowed him to shape the next generation of artists, including his pupil Louis François Gérard van der Puyl. His presence in Utrecht marked the final chapter of his active years, a period spent teaching the nuances of line and form until his death in 1770.
His technical range included several distinct methods of expression:
