Her career was marked by high demand, with commissions often reaching five hundred dollars, and she earned distinction as the first woman to be elected a full member of the National Academy of Design in New York.

Born in Pomfret, Connecticut, Hall developed her artistic talents from a young age through various techniques such as cutting silhouettes, modeling figures in wax, and creating flower pictures and still lifes in watercolor and pencil. Her training included studying oil painting with Alexander Robertson in New York City and learning to make miniatures in watercolors on ivory from Samuel King in Newport, Rhode Island.
