özlem altın (née en 1977 à Goch, Allemagne) est une artiste allemande et turque vivant actuellement à Berlin. Son parcours artistique débute à l’Hochschule für die Künste Köln où elle affine ses compétences fondamentales avant de poursuivre un diplôme d'études supérieures à l’Institut Piet Zwart à Amsterdam – une expérience déterminante qui lui inculque une profonde appréciation pour la documentation photographique et sa capacité à transmettre des récits complexes. L’approche de l’institut envers le récit visuel a profondément influencé son travail artistique, nourrissant une fascination pour la manière dont les images interagissent et se transforment au fil du temps.

Après ses études supérieures, altın reçoit un soutien précieux du Fonds BKVB, la Fondation néerlandaise des arts visuels, de la conception et de l’architecture qui lui permet d’établir Orient Press – une plateforme éditoriale indépendante dédiée à présenter les livres d'artiste et à diffuser sa vision distinctive. Cet engagement envers la publication dépasse un simple souci professionnel ; il reflète une conviction dans l’importance du dialogue artistique et de la diffusion des idées au-delà des espaces galeries traditionnels.

Son œuvre repose sur une vaste archive composée de ses propres photographies aux côtés d'images trouvées provenant de diverses origines : collections muséales, Internet et médias grand public. Plutôt que de présenter ces matériaux comme des représentations statiques, altın les engage activement grâce à des techniques de collage méticuleuses, des manipulations photographiques et des processus picturaux. Cette intervention délibérée transforme l’archive en une constellation dynamique d'images, incitant les spectateurs à envisager « ce qui se passe entre les images ». C’est cette superposition conceptuelle – la reconnaissance des connexions cachées et des récits non exprimés – qui définit sa pratique artistique. Elle souligne également le rôle de la mémoire dans l’interprétation et la création artistique.

Elle est professeure invitée à Hochschule Leipzig (2020-2021) et Umprum Prague (2023), où elle partage son expertise et inspire les jeunes artistes, contribuant ainsi à approfondir la réflexion sur l'art photographique contemporain et son rôle dans la formation de la compréhension culturelle. Ses expositions marquantes comprennent notamment « Finding connections between her layers of photomontage and ink », une œuvre présentée au MoMA en 2020, consolidant sa position comme voix importante au sein du paysage artistique international. Elle est récompensée par le prix Hannah Höch décerné par la ville de Berlin en 2023 et bénéficie d’une exposition individuelle à venir à Berlinische Galerie en 2024.

Elle étudie à l’ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten à Arnhem entre 2000 et 2003 puis à Rotterdam entre 2004 et 2006.
