    Tietoja teoksesta

Alternate planes - White rainbow — Jan Kaláb

Jan Kaláb, aka Point, aka Cakes, studied at two art schools in Prague and has toured to graffiti festivals in Berlin, Moscow, Manchester, Amsterdam, Gothenburg and Sao Paulo. In 2008 he organized NAMES – a major Czech international street art and graffiti festival and co-founded alternative culture art center Trafacka. Besides classic graffiti showcasing his talent for dynamic compositions with playful use of colour, he also creates street art in a wide range of formats, never afraid to experiment and push the boundaries of the art. On canvas, his expansive graffiti style is reduced to a concentrated, minimalist expression inspired by Piet Mondrian and Frantisek Kupka. Through rounded geometry that comes to being by combining precise paintbrush painting and American retouching Kaláb immerses deeper into the analysis of the abstract space.

The Chromatic Evolution of Jan Kaláb

Born on June 20th, 1978, in the historic heart of Prague, Czechia, Jan Kaláb has carved a unique niche in the contemporary art world by bridging the gap between the raw, rebellious energy of urban street culture and the disciplined elegance of geometric abstraction. His artistic odyssey began not in the quiet halls of an academy, but amidst the vibrant, unpredictable landscapes of the city streets. Operating under the pseudonyms “cakes” or “point,” Kaláb emerged as a prominent figure in the Czech graffiti scene, mastering the art of dynamic compositions and playful color usage that would later become the heartbeat of his fine art practice. This early immersion in graffiti provided him with a foundational understanding of scale, movement, and the visceral impact of color on public space.

The transition from the spray can to the canvas marked a profound metamorphosis in Kaláb's creative identity. Upon entering the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, he began to distill his expansive, sweeping graffiti style into something more concentrated and meditative. He moved away from the 3D sculptural explorations of alphabetic lettering toward a sophisticated exploration of Neoplasticism. Drawing deep inspiration from the legacies of Piet Mondrian and Vasilij Kupka, Kaláb began to embrace the principles of pure geometric abstraction. His work evolved into a delicate dance between structural rigor and organic fluidity, where the sharp edges of geometry meet the soft, pulsating rhythms of organic forms.

A Symphony of Shape and Space

Kaláb’s mature style is characterized by an extraordinary ability to manipulate spatial perception through color. His canvases serve as arenas where light and hue interact to create a sense of depth and motion. By utilizing rounded geometries and a technique that blends precise brushwork with meticulous retouching, he achieves a "concentrated minimalist expression" that feels both modern and timeless. The artist seeks to strip away the superfluous, leaving behind only the most fundamental elements of visual experience: shape, color, and space. This pursuit of organic geometry allows his work to resonate emotionally, as the vibrant palettes evoke a sense of vitality and life that transcends the static nature of the medium.

Beyond the confines of traditional canvas painting, Kaláb has extended his visual language into the realm of public art through monumental murals. His commitment to large-scale works underscores his belief in the power of art to engage entire communities and stimulate public dialogue. This duality—the intimate, analytical nature of his paintings and the expansive, social reach of his murals—defines his significance as a contemporary master. His contribution to the global mural movement, highlighted in publications such as “Mural Art Worldwide,” cements his role as an artist who refuses to be confined by boundaries, whether they be physical or stylistic.

    Global Reach and Artistic Legacy

The trajectory of Jan Kaláb’s career is a testament to the universal appeal of his visual language. Since his first solo exhibition at Prague’s Trafo Gallery in 2008, his reputation has expanded far beyond the borders of Czechia. His works have been showcased in an impressive array of international art hubs, including:

Europe: Berlin, Paris, London, Bologna, Sofia, and Amsterdam.

The Americas: San Francisco, Miami, Buenos Aires, and Bogotá.

    Asia: Taipei.

This global presence is matched by the prestige of the institutions that have recognized his talent. His artwork has been featured in notable collections and exhibitions such as the MAXXI National Museum of 21st-Century Arts in Rome, the Albin Polasek Museum, and the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library. As he continues to push the boundaries of his medium—moving seamlessly between painting, sculpture, and installation—Jan Kaláb remains a compelling voice in the international art scene, reminding us that even the most structured geometry can possess a soul as fluid and vibrant as life itself.

    Näytteillä kohteessa Moscow, Russian Federation

    A Sanctuary of Visionary Expression

In the heart of Moscow, where the pulse of modern creativity meets the deep-rooted traditions of Russian artistry, lies the Artmosphere Artmossphere Studio. It is not merely a gallery, but a breathing sanctuary designed for those who seek to transcend the mundane through the power of visual storytelling. The studio serves as a bridge between the historical weight of classical mastery and the ethereal lightness of contemporary imagination. Visitors are invited into a space where every brushstroke tells a story of passion, and every canvas acts as a window into an alternate, more beautiful reality. This is a destination curated specifically for the discerning eye—the collector searching for a soul in their acquisitions, the art lover seeking profound connection, and the interior designer hunting for that singular, transformative piece that defines a room.

The architecture of the studio itself mirrors the philosophy of its collection: a seamless blend of structured elegance and organic fluidity. As one wanders through the curated halls, the atmosphere shifts from the contemplative stillness of classical landscapes to the vibrant, energetic bursts of modern abstraction. The light within the studio is meticulously managed, dancing across textured surfaces to reveal the intricate layers of hand-painted mastery. It is an environment designed to evoke emotion, making the act of viewing art a deeply immersive, almost spiritual experience. Here, the boundaries between the observer and the observed begin to dissolve, leaving only the pure essence of color and form.

The collection highlights are nothing short of breathtaking, featuring works that celebrate the timeless allure of hand-painted reproductions and original explorations of light. The studio takes immense pride in its ability to honor the legends of art history while fostering a unique contemporary voice. Each piece within the Artmosphere Artmossphere Studio is selected for its ability to command presence; whether it is a sweeping, romanticized vista that evokes nostalgia or a bold, textured masterpiece that challenges the modern aesthetic. The studio’s notable exhibitions frequently explore themes of texture, memory, and the interplay between shadow and light, ensuring that the collection remains a dynamic, ever-evolving entity.

What truly distinguishes this studio from traditional galleries is its commitment to the tactile soul of art. In an era dominated by the digital and the ephemeral, Artmosphere Artmossphere Studio remains a bastion for the physical, the textured, and the permanent. It is a place where the craftsmanship of the human hand is celebrated as the ultimate medium of expression. For those looking to curate spaces that resonate with depth and sophistication, the studio offers more than just decor; it offers the opportunity to inhabit a world shaped by artistry, making every interior an extension of a grander, more poetic narrative.
