    Antoine Joseph Wiertz, born in Dinant, Belgium in 1806, was a figure perpetually wrestling with artistic recognition and societal indifference. This patronage proved crucial, providing not only formal training but also financial support from King William I of the Netherlands, allowing Wiertz to dedicate himself fully to his artistic pursuits.
