1

Nocní ptáci, Art Institute of Chicago, Chica

1942 · Olej na plátně · Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago

Vytvořená roku 1942, tato ikonická malba zachycuje pozdně noční scénu uvnitř celonoční kavárny a stala se jedním z nejznámějších obrazů amerického umění. „Nocní sovy“ jsou mnohem víc než jen zobrazením městského života; je to hluboká explorace moderní odcizenosti a tichého osamělost nalezené i uprostřed rušných metropolí. Hopper, mistr zachycení atmosféry, zde s neobyčejnou citlivostí zobrazuje momenty ztišení a introspekce v srdci pulzujícího města.

Automat

Kompozice a styl: Studie rovnováhy a kontrastu Hopperova…

The life of Edward Hopper

Studoval na New York School of Art pod vedením William Merritt Chase a Robert Henri. Tyto roky mu vštěpily technickou zručnost nezbytnou pro zobrazení světa nefalšovaného a upřímného.

V díle House by the Railroad (1925) odhaluje jednoduchá kompozice pocit tajemství a izolace.

Světlo a městský interiér

Hopperův vliv sahá až do vizuálního jazyka filmu a literatury.
