Born in Mexico City on September 24, 1931, Gilberto Aceves Navarro was a child who found his voice through a pencil long before he could find it through words. He began drawing at the age of four, a practice that remained a constant, necessary part of his existence throughout his life. Growing up as the youngest of three children, his early years were marked by a quiet, introspective nature. His mother
was an opera singer with a fascination for the magical arts, while his father, a singer who eventually left the family, provided a more turbulent backdrop to his upbringing.
