Raný život a formování umělce Giacomo Balla, zrozený v Turíně 18. července 1871, pocházel z rodiny s uměleckými kořeny – jeho otec byl fotograf. Zpočátku studoval hudbu až do devíti let věku, ale po otcově smrti se začal učit v lithografické dílně a probudil v něm zájem o vizuální umění. Studoval na místních akademiích a později na Turínské univerzitě. V roce 1895 se přestěhoval do Říma, kde začal pracovat jako ilustrátor, karikaturist…
