Vasily Ivanovich Sternberg (Ukrainian: Василь Іванович Штернберґ, Russian: Василий Иванович Штернберг (12 February 1818, Saint Petersburg – 8 September 1845, Rome) was a Russian and Ukrainian landscape and genre painter, born on February 12, 1818, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He was a graduate of the Russian Academy of Arts and died on November 8, 1845, in Rome, Italy.

Sternberg’s father was a mining official, providing him with a stable upbringing amidst the burgeoning industrial landscape of Imperial Russia. He began his artistic journey by auditing classes at the Imperial Academy of Arts and formally enrolled in 1835, dedicating himself to mastering landscape painting under the tutelage of Maxim Vorobiev.
