His early work, particularly the ‘Isle of Man’ series (1980), established him as a voice for those displaced by rapid change, presenting starkly beautiful images that simultaneously celebrated and mourned the loss of traditional ways of life. The island's transformation from a remote outpost to a tax haven – a process marked by both prosperity and displacement – became a central theme in his oeuvre, reflecting a broader national narrative of decline and resilience.
