Green Cliffs

Zhu Qizhan, also known by his given name Zengjun and literary names Qizai and Erzhanlaomin, was born in Taicang, Jiangsu province. He began to learn painting at an early age, travelled twice to Japan to learn Western painting in his midlife, and focused on Chinese painting from the 1950s onward. In 1955, he was employed by The Shanghai Research Institute of Culture and History as a researcher and became a painter at the Shanghai Academy of Chinese Painting in the following year. Zhu specialized in mountain and water and flower painting, and was particularly good at painting orchids, bamboos, and stones.
