"The Long Leg"

Edward Hopper (i) - Oil On Canvas (i) - 76 x 50 cm - 1930 - New Realism (i)
‘The Long Leg’ is kept at the Huntington Library in San Marino, USA. A boat shown sailing around Long Point Light which is situated in the middle of Massachusetts. This setting is quite close to what used to be Hopper’s summer home. Even though Hopper was known to be a realist or a figurative painter, his paintings also exuded a sense of isolation, silently characteristic of mid-America. He was more popular for his depictions of urban alienation. Most of his sea paintings were executed from 1916 to 1919. Another observation about his landscape paintings is that he set them in the presence of sunny weather. Snow or Rainfall didn’t take part in his oeuvre. His paintings were marked by the presence of a strong source of light, in one way or another.
