Amoureux de Paris, il vivra dans plusieurs quartiers de la capitale : dans un atelier de la rue Blomet, puis de Montmartre. Une fois marié, il emménagera rue François Mouthon en 1929.

En 1956, Joan Miro commence les peintures murales pour le siège de l'Unesco à Paris (VIIè) et reçoit, trois plus tard, le Grand Prix de la fondation Guggenheim pour cette oeuvre.

Ami de grands poètes surréalistes français, Joan Miro va illustrer quelques uns de leurs poèmes comme 'L'Arbre des voyageurs' de Tzara ou 'A toute épreuve' de Paul Eluard.

En 1972 est décidée la création de la fondation Joan Miro à Barcelone. Celle-ci fut inaugurée officiellement quatre ans plus tard.

Nombre de ces oeuvres furent réalisées pour des lieux publics comme une céramique murale pour l'aéroport de Barcelone ou encore deux sculptures pour un parc de cette ville, le tout créé avec son ami Artigas.
